Nappies

You could change between 4,000 and 6,000 nappies before your child is potty trained.

A real nappy is cute and stylish.  It is not a big white piece of cloth held up with safety pins.  Modern real nappies are brightly coloured, have various designs, use Velcro to hold them up and are elasticated just like disposable nappies.

Standard disposable nappies are easy to use but using a disposable nappy means you are sending all your nappies to landfill.  Nappies are made from a number of materials including plastic which can take hundreds of years to breakdown in landfill sites.

If you want to see how washable nappies could work for you take a look at this short film where mum Sophie and little Evie show how easy and comfortable it is for them.

Want to talk to someone?

Go Real and the Real Nappy for London scheme can give you information.

In West London we’d like to set up a group for mums wanting to know more.  If you have used or want to use real nappies get in touch to share your experiences and ask questions.  If we get a lot of interest, we will set up groups and meetings for you to meet each other and talk about your situation.

There is a Real Nappy for London newsletter, you can subscribe to this to receive regular updates and information about washable nappies.

Real Nappy schemes from your local council

Some of the councils in West London will give you money towards the cost of buying real nappies if you live in their area
