Reduce your waste in business

Food

UK shops and manufacturers throw away an estimated 6.2 million tonnes of food every year.

If you find your business is needlessly binning good foo, look at why this is happening and take action to stop the waste.

Reduce

  • Allow your customers to take home any leftovers and eat another day.
  • Consider reducing the portion sizes of your meals.
  • Offer a choice of portions to suit your customers.
  • Look at your purchasing of food so you only order what you need.
  • Review your menu.
  • Plan ahead and only prepare what you need.
  • Ensure your fridge and freezer are working properly.

Reuse

  • If you prepare too much food store it appropriately for the next day.
  • Partner with local community organisations to give them leftover edible food at the end of the day.
  • Donate food to FareShare who can re-distribute food to organisations that help others
