Reduce or reuse waste in your area
Donate
Books, clothes, blankets and jewellery are just some of the items you can donate to a charity shop. Give items a chance to have a good home when you’ve finished with them. But don’t forget you can buy from charity shops too.
Three things to think about
- Make sure your donations are clean and functional. Charity shops earn money from items that are still useful. If you give clothes with rips, a single shoe or a game with some pieces missing, no-one will want them and the charity has to pay to send them for disposal.
- Take items to your local shop if you can. This saves transport and doesn’t cost the charity money. If you can’t get to the shop, speak to them to see if it’s possible to collect from your home.
- For specialist items such as electrical goods or large items check the shop can accept them. They might not have space but could know someone else that will take them from you.
